Chapter 119. In the Cave of Shadows
Lara makes promises to her clan, Chris, and Carter. She can can barely remember them all, and isn’t even sure she can fulfill them. The weight of her obligations is heavier than she thought, but she has gone too far to stop now. She has a duty to fulfill as a mother, a friend, and a leader. She exhales deeply, contemplating her next step.
“Lara, you did great, and I’m proud of you,” Carter gently pats her on the back. She shows a weak smile.
It’s time to drop her façade, she’s not okay. She had only put on a strong front then so the clan would know she’s serious. She suddenly remembers something and turns to face Carter, who is busy reading through a book.
“Why did they ask if I had relatives?” She asks.
He stops reading. “You’re a Luna. If you have relatives, they might try to take your position, leading to chaos. We don’t want that.”
She doesn’t look convinced. “Then why ask if I have kids or a husband?”
“Safety precautions, I guess,” he shrugs.
