Seeing the distress on Lara’s face, Carter does not argue. He nods and follows her out of the ballroom without another word.

They step into the night, the sound of the party slowly fading behind them, leaving only the quiet rustle of  leaves around as the only sound in the space. The soft glow of the moon cast long shadows on the floor, a testament to its dominion of the night sky in the moment.
