Chapter 200. Uncertain Farewell
Lara drowns the rest of her bowl in silence until the only sound echoing in the space is the clattering of plates in the sink as Carter does the dishes. She glares at him, expecting him to say something, anything. But instead, he glances at her with displeasure and faces his endeavor again.
“Ignoring me will never be the solution, Carter,” Lara complains, staring down at her empty bowl. “Come on, say something—”
“What would you have me say? Huh?” Carter cut in harshly, the piercing sound of broken glass echoing alongside it. His muscles tighten as he folds his fists.
Lara’s mouth goes agape. She almost cannot remember the last time he screamed at her, or looked at her with such disgust. Perhaps she has gotten used to the gentle, caring Carter, and the pity always etched on his face that she no longer remembers what it is like to be scolded by him.
