Kade draped a blanket around my shoulders and sat next to me on the back of Holden’s truck. Aiden had been taken to the hospital. He’d live, but Kade had to make a decision on his Dad and cousin.

Now that the sun was coming up, I felt the weight of fatigue and the roar of hunger.

“You did great, sweetheart,” Kade said.
