Chapter 13
Scarlett’s POV
Who was I to opine on other people’s lives? I had left home to go see William, the guy I had met years ago. I didn’t think I’d see him again, but here he was, in Los Angeles, waiting for me at a venue. I felt a strange sensation in my stomach—what could it be? Butterflies? Nausea? Whatever it was, I was terrified. My hands were sweating, and I wanted to run away.
But I was standing in front of a wooden door, a fast-food place, holding my coat in my hand. I walked in determinedly, ignoring the trembling in my legs. I preferred to hide my nerves than to show them. The man was sitting, looking at his phone. He wore a casual black shirt and jeans. That surprised me.
“Scarlett, I thought you wouldn’t come. I thought you’d be busy playing bank robbers.”
I furrowed my brow, not understanding what he meant. I was about to ask him when I connected his words to Matt.
