Chapter 21. The Walk
Afhany stood at the top of the stairs with her hands on her belly and tears in her eyes. She heard everything Moses said and could guess what he was thinking, too. And as soon as they left, she slowly went back to bed, where she cried herself to sleep.
Of course, she would never put the life of the child she was expecting at risk. She had said that only so that they would not insist on taking her on this outing and so that Moses would be prevented from seeing her. She already loved the child in her womb and would do her best to make sure he had more opportunities than she did. She wanted her to know the world and happiness. To know freedom and love. And thinking of these things, she fell asleep again.
