Chapter 71

Maya was stunned and speechless, heavy puffs of air escaped from her lips. She blinked several times as if that would change anything, maybe she hoped that it would. Then she wouldn't be standing in this fairytale-turned-nightmare. 

Jerry took a step forward and she took one back. He sighed despondently, dragging a hand down his face, "Look, Miss Greene, I know it's hard for you to believe me but-" 

She raised a hand, stopping whatever he was going to say, "Greenley. My name is Greenley."

"I apologize, I thought -" 

"And if you are a friend of Alex like you said then you wouldn't be going behind his back and slandering him," She was fuming now but apprehension had begun to settle in her gut. "That's disgusting." 

Jerry sighed, shaking his head like she didn't understand anything and maybe she didn't. "Trust me, I've spoken to him about this."
