Iris cowered in her room as a full-blown argument between Maddox and his mother echoed around the house. She just prayed his mother would leave her alone. How would she face his mom? She would surely know her actual identity. 

Iris was sure Maddox would throw her out if he knew her identity. He would never believe that she wasn’t here for revenge. No one would believe her. Yet she was here not for revenge but to fulfill her mother’s dream of educating the twins. 

She wouldn’t let anything get in the way. As the voices grew louder, she trembled with fear. 

“Why can’t you come along with us? I’m so disappointed in you, Maddox. If Lennox had been alive, he would never have let me down.”
