Elena stifled a bitter laugh. “Oh, Damian. You never even loved me. All you ever loved was your own ego.”
Damian was silent for a moment. His gaze dimmed.
Elena sighed. “I have to go. Don’t show up again with empty hopes. Focus on the children. Keep your promise, Mr. Damian.”
Damian only smiled as he watched Elena’s back, his ex-wife moving away.
Elena had just passed through the mall lobby when her cell phone vibrated. She ignored it at first glance, too busy thinking about the meeting with the vendor on the third floor. But the vibration came twice in a row. Finally, she pulled over, took her phone out of her bag, and opened the screen.
