Anita’s POV
“Secret wedding, huh?” Cassandra’s voice echoed across the room.
I sighed, as I was done narrating the whole story to Cassandra for the millionth time.
“I think you had a pretty sketchy life,” she said as she walked back to the bed where I was seated, miserable, unsure of what to think or what to find.
“I don’t see myself as a sketchy person—maybe I just love privacy,” I defended.
“You said you called him, right?”
“Who, Damien?” I asked back.
“Yes. What did he say?” Cassandra inquired.
I recalled the night I called him.
He seemed so excited—over the moon, to be precise.
“Anita,” he had almost whispered my name, like someone under hypnosis.
“You know me, right? I have seen you a couple of times, and I can’t seem to understand.”
“I can’t tell you everything right now, but trust me, once I get to the root of the matter, I will be with you in Chicago in no time.”
