Walking into the party must have been the biggest mistake ever.

But what more could I have imagined?

I was running from a killer, and in my course for that, I ran into pain—not just any pain—a pain that might seem never to end.

Her words echoed into the mic, and it felt like she yelled them directly into my ear.

“I’m beautifully pregnant for the first son of the King’s family; yes, that’s right, Damien King,” Joan revealed to a huge crowd of people.

I wasn’t really shocked, but I can say that I was pained to the core to think that I was starting to accept Damien back into my life.

What was I even thinking? Couldn’t I read the lines earlier?

How could I ever have possibly just thought for a moment that Damien and I belonged together?
