Chapter 68. Departure
Rachel never wanted to get away from him. She embraced him deeply, as she would be when Luther was still hers. And she was still his. Rachel listened to every pound of his heart while Ezekiel went and touched the back of her head.
The war in Wales will limp everyone, even Rachel’s family. She was meant to die if she was, but I guess, today, she was destined to see her loved ones before she lay down in the path of a blood grave.
Ezekiel didn’t say anything and just breathed, in a calm and peaceful way.
They stayed there for eternity until Ezekiel spoke up, “I’d like to give something to you.”
Rachel let go of his body and held his arms close. Ezekiel reached out in his pockets, retrieved a velvet box, with an etched outline of a flower engraved at the top. Rachel can’t decipher what it was at first, but it was a blooming rose. The velvet is in the shade of deep burgundy, too.
Rachel looked at Ezekiel, who was focused on opening the tiny box.
