Chapter 23

Pat

While Eduardo is quiet about it and rarely complains, I notice the strain on him. 

We’re yet to be able to meet in places other than school. For some reason, even though I tell Ricky a lot about Eduardo, I don’t want him to visit me at work. I just don’t.

What we have done, though, is kiss. A lot. We kiss so often, it’s as though it’s the only thing we both know how to do.

As I walk down the hallway, I’m met by a group of girls. We chat for a while, asking one another girl questions and sharing things we do with our boyfriends.

As I walk away from them, laughing at the last comment, I’m met by two people I haven’t had time for.

Faith greets me and moves on. Kaiser, on the other hand, waits for me, resting his body on the wall.

“Hey,” I say, strapping my bag higher on my shoulder.

After seconds of silence, he says, “You like him that much, huh?”

I have a feeling that he’s talking about letting go of Faith and him for Eduardo,
