Chapter 29. Letting Him Go

Mary sat on the edge of her bed, her gaze fixed on the wall in front of her. Her heart ached as she remembered Sam's words from the night before.

"I'm only doing this for the baby."

Those were the words that had broken her heart and crushed her dreams. She was overjoyed that Sam was taking care of their child, but she soon understood that he was just doing so out of obligation. He was just concerned with the baby, not with her.

Mary's eyes welled up with tears as she remembered how badly she wanted things to work out with Sam. She had been overjoyed when he agreed to take custody of their child, but now it all felt like a cruel joke."
