Chapter 130. Things Happen for a Reason

Catherine’s POV

“Don’t be,” I said. “You can’t control everything in life, and things happen for a reason. If Brian wasn’t unfaithful and Ethan didn’t reject me because of my disability, I wouldn’t have met you and your brothers.”

“Yeah, but still,” he said, sadly. “They shouldn’t have hurt you that way, and I need to learn to trust your judgment. I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did this morning, and for that, I am sorry.”

“I know,” I said. “Then I should apologize too for saying what I did. I didn’t mean it the way it sounded.”

Colt laughed without humor.

“I know, and no, you shouldn’t be apologizing for anything,” he said. “I was the one who tried to force you to make peace with your best friend, and after what I have just heard, we should send her back home.”

I nodded, not even arguing.

After a moment of silence, I couldn’t help but ask Colt if he had ever had a best friend. Maybe he could understand where I was coming from.
