Colt’s POV

“It’s a woman’s handwriting,” Grey said, dropping the envelope and its contents on my desk.

“Who would want a murderer released?” Alpha Duncan asked tiredly.

“It must be his mate,” Sam said. “Who else would want him not to be executed?”

“It makes sense,” I agreed, staring at the white envelope in front of me. “But do you think she is responsible for kidnapping Kate?”

I slowly lifted my gaze to Grey, waiting for a reply.

“I don’t know,” he said truthfully. “I’m afraid that it might be possible.”

“But everyone in the pack knows that Kate has gone missing,” Sam interrupted. “Anyone could have written that letter to scare us even if they didn’t take Kate!”

“Do you think that someone would take advantage of the situation?” I asked.

“For this reason, yes, I do!” Sam said, crossing his arms around his chest.

If Sam is right, we could just proceed with our original plan and go down to the tunnels and search, but i
