Chapter 144. Picking Up Alice
Harry’s black car slowed down in front of a flower shop on the Upper East Side. The New York fall air brushed his face as he stepped out. Golden maple leaves fell on the sidewalk, contrasting with the navy Tom Ford suit he wore.
“White lilies and pink roses,” Harry told the florist. His eyes glanced at the Patek Philippe watch on his wrist—at eleven. Yesterday when he visited, Alice had looked much better, sitting back while reading her favorite novel. But still, Harry wanted to take her home immediately.
“Here you go, sir.” The florist handed over an elegant bouquet of flowers.
Ten minutes later, Harry stepped into the corridors of Mount Sinai Hospital. The familiar scent of antiseptic greeted him. In room 1045, he found Alice packing up her things, she did it slowly and carefully, Harry for a moment watched her movements until she finally realized Harry’s presence.
