Chapter 83. That Doesn't Change Anything

“I had hoped this wouldn't happen,” Raines said as he put his gun away. “Believe it or not, but I don't want to hurt you.”
I didn't look away from him, even when Medea crawled back to his side. She wasn't who I should be worried about; this man was. I was worried earlier for the wrong person, but I didn't even think Medea would have company, and a Colonel, no less.
“But you still shot me,” I snarled, still on my knees, my hand pressed against the wound on my thigh so I could reduce the blood. The wound was starting to heal, though. I couldn't let that happen.
The bullet was still lodged inside. If my wound healed, it would close and seal the bullet in. That was going to cause another problem.
“Apologies,” Raines said with the same tone and expression he would use to tell someone to go to hell.
