Kaitlin got to him first. Her son was on the ground, unmoving. She urged Janelle to hurry up, and before long, they were dragging him back to the house. It was raining heavily, and it was getting dark too. It had taken them some hours to figure out where he was. Using the scent had not worked because Johnny had masked their scent long before they arrived BeTusar.
The ruling order had figured out it was him there on the baseball team. It was easy to know it was him because he was faster and had more energy to exude. But Johnny had forgotten himself and thought they were all humans. They'd sniffed out his scent, and long before he could play and get away with it, they knew he was the one. The player, the one who got to his nerves and ended up getting beaten, was the bait. They had used him to see his reaction. Everything he did there was not his acting. They had manipulated him without him knowing.
