Chapter 13

The door was shut, but not from the inside when Vera got home. She'd thought her mother would be at home. She wasn't looking quite well that morning, but her dad had assured her she would be fine. This was before she hurried out to school. She rapped at the door for a while and when no sound or response came, she turned to Johnny who stood behind her, looking around the vicinity, taking in the comfort little bungalow apartment with a patio.

"There's no one at home." She bent and took the keys from under the floor mat placed before the entrance door. "You still want to come in?"

Johnny studied her. The question wasn't coming because she wanted him in their house. He had caught her breathing faster too and knew things were going to get fiercer with just the both of them in the house. They would definitely forget she'd come home to get treatment for her leg.
