Chapter 37. A Heartrending Reunion

I was incredibly nervous that morning. The hospital stood before me as people moved in and out, some crying, others smiling. I looked at Juliano, who gazed back at me with concern, but I reassured him with a small smile.
We walked to the reception area of the hospital and had to wait for a while until a young woman, probably in her twenties, greeted us kindly.
"Good morning, how can I help?" I remained silent, unable to speak, and noticing my struggle, Juliano took the lead.
"We're here to see Emília Azevedo," he said. The woman looked serious for a moment and then smiled before asking,
"Only family members are allowed to visit Mrs. Azevedo." That's when my voice came out loud and strong, grabbing the woman's and some people's attention nearby.
"I am her son, and I won't leave here without seeing my mother."
