Chapter 109

Ares POV

I look around my surroundings to make sure the coast is clear. I quickly step over the border and walk toward where I left the car. After a few steps, I stop and look back at my former home.

[Flashback]

“I just need 5 minutes.”

“I’m not sure if I can. Everyone is on high alert right now.” I step forward and pull her in close. I run my nose along her jaw, swallowing the bile that’s rising in my throat.

“I. Just. Need. Five. Minutes.” I feel her body shudder against me, and I know I have her. I drop my arms and step back. I watch her walk away from me, trying to right her ship. She walks through the door.

I lean against the tree and wait. I let my foot tap an unknown beat while I wait. It doesn’t take long for me to push off the
