“Tate… hi!” I greeted him immediately, even lifting my hand in a small wave.
AJ furrowed his brows at me, and it didn’t take long for me to understand why. The tension in his expression made perfect sense—I had greeted Tate so casually, but AJ had no context.
“Tate’s my friend,” I quickly explained, turning to AJ. “You probably know him as a superstar, but he’s also my friend.”
I then turned back to Tate with a bright smile, trying to shake off the awkwardness settling in the air. “Tate, meet AJ, a…”
I hesitated, my brows knitting together slightly. How was I supposed to introduce AJ? Calling him just a ‘friend’ felt… strange, considering Tate had just seen us kissing. But what else could I say? He wasn’t a classmate. He wasn’t a coworker. There was no other label I could use.
“…A friend,” I finally said, forcing the words out.
It wasn’t like I had another choice. Whatever Tate thought of that answer was up to him.
