Good thing Tate was able to pull himself together—because if he hadn’t, we might never have made it to Lee’s condo unit.
On the way there, I did nothing but cry, worry, and drown in fear for Lee. My thoughts spiraled, imagining all the terrible things that could be happening to her while we weren’t there yet. My hands were shaking so badly that I had to clutch my own knees just to ground myself, but it wasn’t working. The sheer helplessness was suffocating me.
When we finally arrived at the lobby of Lee’s condo building and Tate managed to park the car, he had to calm me down. He held my face in his hands, his thumbs brushing away my tears as he spoke in a low, firm voice, trying to steady me. He told me I needed to stop crying, that I had to compose myself—because the last thing we wanted was to set Chace off.
But then, Chace’s voice suddenly roared through the phone.
