Two hours later, Charlotte entered with a tray of snacks.

“Ms. Alanna!”

Alanna woke up.

“Hi.”

“Come on, eat.”

“I’m not hungry.”

“You will eat. Now that we have a little one on the way, you’ll need to improve your appetite.”

Alanna tried to smile but burst into tears again. “I’ve driven my child’s father away, Charlotte. I sent him away, and now my child won’t have a father.”

“You did what was right; he lied and deceived you. If someday you feel like forgiving, forgive, but for now, you have to be strong and move forward. You have to be strong for the baby! Ms. Vanessa and I are here; you can count on me for everything.”

“What would I do without you, Charlotte?”

“I don’t know either! Now eat and wash your face. Mr. Taylor is waiting for you in an hour. Cheer up!”
