Vanessa was cleaning up the mess when Anthony arrived.

“Before you come in, tell me exactly what you know.”

“Well… Matheus asked me to read through Alanna’s will documents, and then he told me he was going to borrow the money and replace it within a year or less.”

“Why did you go through Alanna’s things?”

“Vanessa, he had already been in touch with Alanna’s family. I just read about the release date of the money, which would be automatic. I told him it was a bad idea. Please, don’t be mad at me!”

“I’m really mad at you, for not telling me and for going through Alanna’s things without permission.”

“At the time, I didn’t think it was a big deal, especially since they were married.”

“That doesn’t justify it, Anthony. Never hide anything from me again, Anthony!”

“Don’t get upset.”

“Don’t get upset, my foot!”

Vanessa raised the broom with one hand, and when she saw Anthony making a defensive gesture, she lowered the broom.
