Author’s POV

Cassian found Lucian in his room, the part of the palace that he knew his brother would always be. It had been his territory. And he had decided, a choice he didn’t want to make. Lucian always gravitated toward silence and calm when his anger grew too heavy to carry. Cassian could already imagine how angry his brother would be.

Lucian stood near one of the tall windows, his back to the room, his hands braced against the stone sill. The light fell across his shoulders but never quite reached his face, it was like a darkness shrouded him - Cassian knew his brother was dark.

Cassian paused at the entrance, watching him for a moment longer than necessary. There were things he needed to say, things he had delayed for too long.

“Why didn’t you stop him?” Lucian said without turning around. Even though Cassian had come, he wasn’t too elated. His brother was little too much like the enemy but one he would have to side with.
