Chapter 18
The cemetery was decorated by a small crowd of humans in black clothing and funeral flowers, some white, some lilac. It was not like every other funeral filled with tears and wailings. It was a funeral where the ones who were most deeply hurt were too weakened to cry and only a few family members and friends were allowed to participate.
All eyes were closed. All eyes except Ava’s, she was staring at her father’s casket. It was white, long enough to accommodate his height that was only shorter than Lucas’s with only a foot or two. She imagined a transparent casket where she could see him smiling and telling her it was only a prank.
“Ava.” She looked up to Lucas who was staring down at her with worry. “You have to throw dirt on the coffin.”
