“I am sorry, she apologized. “You must consider me a depressing liability, one way or another. There’s no reason why you should have done all this for me, even if we have a business arrangement.”
For a moment, Darcy could see a flicker of anger in his eyes, but soon it was gone.
“I wasn’t thinking about anything when I followed you to Cannes,” he said. “I did it for our family’s sake.”
Wondering why she should feel snubbed and disappointed, Darcy tried to tell herself that he was nothing more than an unemotional person who did things for his peculiar reasons. She was still, however, grateful.
After they reached the hotel, Darcy asked the receptionist for another room but was informed that they had no rooms available and suggested they share the room as it was a double room.
