Doctor Kim then asks JaeMin to lift his shirt and lower the elastic of his pants. JaeMin does as instructed, and as he does, Dr. Kim pours the necessary gel to perform the ultrasound.

"The little girl is active," he says, smiling. I see the tiny legs and arms waving on the screen. "She's upside down, but she'll probably change position. There's still plenty of room."

"Is everything okay with her?" I ask.

"Yes, she is," he says, continuing the examination. "Her heart rate is slightly below normal, but I will continue monitoring it, and it should return to normal as well."

"But then, why the pain?" I inquire.

Dr. Kim sighs, pausing the examination and looking at us.

"JaeMin's first pregnancy was high-risk. The placenta had a small tear early on, but with rest, we managed to keep everything stable, remember?"
