Chapter 72
Mara's POV
I found Ronan beating an iron door with a stolen hammer.
He looked up at the sound of my steps. There was no echo to carry his relief and no wolf in my mind to interpret the set of his shoulders. I saw it anyway. His grip loosened around the hammer, his breath left him, and his eyes moved over me once as if confirming every piece was still attached.
I crossed the last few feet and put my hand against his chest. No magical line opened between us. His heart was simply beating too fast under my palm. "You are here," he said. It was not a question. I understood then how little we had ever needed the bond to tell us.
For once, I did not criticize the strategy.
"How long has Gideon been inside?"
"Three minutes." "And Severin?"
