Chapter 25. Contending
“Don’t you get it?!” Fur said. “I am not the bad guy here!” he tightened his grip on Matt.
Matt gasped. It’s difficult for him to breathe with Fur’s grip on him. He could barely move two.
“Then let him go if you are not the bad guy here,” Rick insisted. He slowly draws closer to Fur, trying to get him to stand down.
“One step closer, and I will snap his neck right now!” He’s not willing to let Rick swift in and then save Matt.
Nancy’s eyes gleamed with horror. This is too much for her to handle. She blames herself for letting Matt come to New Orleans. She would have left him in their hometown.
Dragging herself to her feet, she lets out a plea. “Please let him go.” Her voice was tiny and shattered in fear. “Take me instead,” she added.
She’s against the entire world. The horror of her worst nightmare is here before her, threatening to snap her brother’s neck, the only family she has left.
