As I walked through the station, I was taken aback by the cheers and applause that erupted from my colleagues. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride as they congratulated me on bringing down Memphis Emma, the notorious supervisor accused of money laundering and child tra******ng.
Elera was waiting for me with a smile on her face. “Looks like we did it,” she said, giving me a pat on the back.
I grinned back at her, feeling a surge of happiness. “We sure did.”
As we walked to our desks, other detectives kept patting me on the back, telling me what a great job I had done. It felt surreal like I was living in a movie or something.
But despite all the accolades, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. The kidnappers had promised to contact us with their next target, and I couldn’t help but wonder who or what it could be.
