Chapter 2
Alexander’s POV
Walking back to the study room from the bathroom, I see my sister is waiting next to my desk. She looks similar to my mother except for her brown eyes, which are the same as our father’s.
She has a diamond face and black wavy hair that is tied in a bun. She has tanned skin and is wearing a tight orange dress and she is curvy all over. She is the eldest of us. Straightening her pose, she clears her throat for attention. The professor, the assistant, and I give her attention.
“If you could all excuse my brother, he is needed in the king’s quarters. Excuse us both, please.” She takes her lower gown in her hand, to leave and I follow behind her. Once outside I walk next to her, hoping she can explain a bit about what is happening.
Our father doesn’t ask for me. If anything he has my sisters or his council to do it. He leaves me to study, to be educated and trained for when it is my time to rule. The only reason he asks for me is that he needs something from me. My sister and I haven’t stopped walking and she is not speaking, so I stop walking. Making her annoyed with her sighs and I cross my hands on my chest.
“I don’t have to follow his orders, you know? If the matter is not serious, I can move forward with anything else that is important. Tell me why I was summoned. I hate wasting time, especially on him.” My dry tone and annoyance are shot straight at my sister and she looks unbothered.
She moves to face me from her pose and as she answers me two guards are placed one on each side of me. “Father asks for you because he has a warrant on his hands. It seems he has made bad choices and wishes for your presence to fix them. Just follow me and do as he says. Alexander, he is not going to live forever and you know it.” She starts to walk back after her words while I’m nervous.
The hilltop castle is built above a tall mountain. The sheer height of the castle above the local area also protects the occupants of the castle from bombardment. Being the highest hilltop shows that we are the highest ranked, apart from our gods. The entire castle outside is of red bricks and red rooftops. The inside consists of gold and red rubies.
Our lands only hold three basic creatures, werewolves, vampires and humans. Since humans are the weakest, we decided to make sure they stay as far away from us as possible. Werewolves don’t hide, but we did make it clear about our lands with them.
Walking in front of my father’s office the smell of humans and vampires is unmistakable. Turning to see my sister, she is just as surprised as I am. The doors open and we both walk in. When our father sees my sister take steps inside he growls and slams the desk.
“No women are allowed in here! OUT!” Our father shouts at her. She bows and leaves the room.
Hearing the doors close behind me, my father takes his seat again. I breathe heavily to not show a single sign of hate. He can be many things, but to me, he is a joke for a king and he is no father to me. Just a caretaker and what’s even worse, he acts mutually with me.
“Come closer, prince. We have many things to discuss.” He says a bit loud.
As I see in the room for a moment, I can see he is making the human, Gordon irritated. He is in charge of the human population. Anything that has to do with humans, he is their leader and the vampire, Orpheus is beyond done with this. Clearly, even he is tired and nothing has actually started.
I take my walk to the nearest sofa, seeing as the big room has the desk with a chair where my father sits. There are four sofa chairs, Gordon is sitting on the right. Orpheus is on the left and I sit in the middle. Orpheus clears his throat and his father stops writing whatever it was.
“Now that we are all settled here, we must have a very important conversation over a small matter that Orpheus and I discovered. Apparently, there is a new lead in the business of a vampire who mated a human, a beloved if memory serves me right.” Father looks at Orpheus who is nodding.
Each kingdom has its term of a partner. Humans call them a partner, vampires call them beloved ones and werewolves call them mates. It is common for humans to have a mixed breed, but it is either one or the other, no true mix actually exists. If they did we would be in a war with them.
“Yes, I have been aware of that as well, but why are we here to speak of that matter only?” Gordon asks and he sounds lost in this conversation.
Typically, humans are always behind in these important conversations. As he asked, an Omega boy walked to my father, who he gives three folders. The Omega passes it around. As each one of us takes one we open to read it. The documents in this folder are a detail of the vampire known as Julian Mole and his human, Jenny.
It shows nothing different, even their child who is named Justin, but then I read one part that took me by surprise. According to the file, Julian adopted a group of a total of five humans and within the eighteen years of their lives, one by one died of natural causes. This doesn’t make sense. I read it twice, but it still does not make sense, I finish the report and look at my father with a worried face.
Placing the folder back to that one page, I continue waiting for the others to finish their reading.
