Chloe’s POV
He did not come near me at work. He was smarter than that now. He waited until I was leaving the hospital after visiting Hilda. He stood by my car like he had always belonged there.
I froze when I saw him.
He smiled like nothing had ever gone wrong.
I did not speak. I unlocked my car.
“You look tired,” he said. “Working too hard to impress my father?”
I turned to face him. “Move.”
He stepped closer instead. “You think he cares about you? You are a distraction. A phase.”
I laughed bitterly. “You should worry about yourself.”
His expression darkened. “You think I do not know what you two are doing?”
My chest tightened. “You know nothing”
“I know enough,” he said. “Enough to ruin you.”
Before I could respond, he leaned closer and lowered his voice. “My mother is patient. I am not.”
