Gia breathed a sigh of relief when she got to her apartment and David’s car wasn’t anywhere in the parking lot. Loading her arms with all of her things and balancing the keys on one finger, she headed up to her door. Inside, there was a distinctly empty feeling, and she couldn’t help but remember the last time they were there together, when he was helping her direct the team of movers. He’d insisted that she leave her apartment fully stocked with food and personal items, just in case she ever wanted to come back. He wanted her to have that option. Her heart skipped a beat as she realized how sweet that truly was.
And now she was using that option, even though it was slowly tearing her heart into pieces.
She took a deep breath and shut the door, locking it behind her.
