Chapter 3
Lacey spent the rest of the afternoon finishing up the copying, mailing and filing for the convention center project. Christopher remained in his office.
Thinking about Sarah and what she had said kept Lacey occupied but not so much that she lost track of the time. On the contrary, she seemed to be almost painfully aware of every passing minute as the day wound down.
Why am I fighting this? I want him as much as he wants me.
Fifteen minutes before 5 p.m. Lacey cleared her desk, made notations on her own calendar about her tasks for the next day and shut down her computer. When she finished, she had five minutes left before it was time to clock out.
She left the office to use the bathroom across the hall. She stood staring at herself in the mirror over the sink for two minutes. When she returned to her desk, it was one minute to 5 p.m.
