Chapter 91. The Veil
“Where am I?” Ruby glanced around desperately. This wasn’t the hospital or the Williams Hotel. It was just a sloppy, narrow road with no sign of anyone. Something was awful about this place - the awful stench of death permeated the air.
“You’re far away from home!” a voice echoed from behind.
Flicking around with nervousness, she made out the profile of her late mother, dressed in a red flowing gown. “Mom?” she stared with a wide-eyed gaze.
“My child,” she flashed a winning smile, moving toward Ruby. Not letting Ruby squeeze out a word, she hugged her closely. “I’ve missed you, my child.”
Ruby was spellbound. She looked confused. Her mother had been dead for years now. Thoughts raced in her mind. Finally, she squeezed out words, “Am I dead?”
She looked lost and confused, with no idea what was going on or where she was. One thing was certain: her mother was dead. Could this be the land of the dead? Am I dead like her? Deep thoughts continued to race thro
