The night had settled, blanketing the packhouse in a quiet lull after the storm of celebration. The echoes of laughter still lingered in the air, but exhaustion had finally caught up with all of us.
Hans and I had just slipped into bed when I felt it.
A deep, sharp pressure in my lower belly..
I sucked in a breath, my fingers clutching the sheets. The sensation rolled through me—not painful yet, but something had shifted. Something so familiar.
Hans immediately noticed. “Jhoanna?” His voice was low, tinged with concern.
I exhaled slowly, willing my body to calm. “I think… I think it’s starting.”
He shot up so fast that he nearly knocked his head against the bedpost. “What?”
