Johanis had that look in his eyes.
The one that always meant trouble.
Before I could even ask what he was up to, he turned on his heel and bolted out the door, his little feet pattering against the wooden floors.
“Johanis!” I called, half-rising from the bed even if I was still ever so weak. Hans placed a firm hand on my shoulder.
“I’ll get him,” he said, already pushing himself up.
I shook my head. “Let him go. He’s not going far.”
Hans frowned, clearly unconvinced, but he stayed put. He didn’t trust our son’s sudden bursts of energy, especially not in the middle of the night. Especially now of all times where I had given birth.
