Chapter 6. Threats

His words rattle me to my core. Loud and clear despite us not being packmates, solidifying the fact that we are, in fact, mates and our bond snapping into place wasn’t simply a figment of my imagination.
His head hangs low, close to my ear. The snarl he lets out is bone-chilling. “Do you understand me?”
My wolf whimpers—too caught off guard by our mate threatening us to even help me. I’m rendered completely helpless against him, my body aching from the hard impact of hitting the ground so suddenly and him putting all of his body weight on top of me to keep me there.
How did it end up like this?
We went from strangers to mates to now enemies?
I don’t understand. What did I do?
Perhaps this is my karma for always disobeying my father and the goddess’s plans for me. Maybe this whole time, I haven’t been destined to become a scholar; I’ve simply been cursed to find my fated mate and for him to hate me.
