My stomach clenches uncomfortably as another wave of hunger hits.
I don’t remember the last time someone’s been down to bring me food. Hours? Days? Weeks? It’s hard to know. The visits from my father have long since dried up, and his enforcers who usually bring down meals for me are far and few.
With no source of light from the outside dwindling in through the cracks in the cell’s foundation, there’s no way for me to tell how much time I’ve been down here. For all I know months have passed.
None of that would surprise me—my father keeping me down here until I all but rot away. What better punishment than to cage his once free bird? It’s rather ironic in a sense to have gotten the taste of freedom, only to be locked away once more, never to experience it again.
