Chapter 5

Toby

Toby pulled down his shirt after the university doctor put his stethoscope away. He was at the university medical center getting a check-up after having unusual cramps during the night.

“I think the problem is that you’ve skipped too many heats, Toby,” the doctor said as he replaced the stethoscope around his neck. “You need to go through a heat more often.”

“But I can’t,” Toby said anxiously. “I live in a dorm. So people will know if I do.”

“Lucky for you, then, that the university has a heat and rut clinic,” the doctor said. “I’ll write you a referral and a sick note for your lecturers. Just stay there for a while, and you can spend it with an alpha.”

“With an alpha?! I’ve never-”

“It’s the best way to get the heat over with quicker. Knotting will satisfy the heat instinct. It could shorten the heat by a couple of days if you let an alpha help.”

Toby hung his head sadly. Of course, he knew that and wanted to get his heat over and done
