Chapter 9

Toby

“The bus is here, Sam!” Toby called through the doorway to the clinic.

Sam nodded and picked up his bag. He went to lift Toby’s as well, which earned him a glare as Toby was just another alpha out here in the real world and would naturally carry his own bags, thank you very much! Sam grinned sheepishly as they boarded the bus back to their dorm.

“Sorry. Alpha habits are hard to break,” he said.

“Tell me about it! I’ve trusted you with my secret,” Toby said, “so just be a little more careful, please?”

“Of course,” Sam said and raised his hand in scout’s honor.

They settled in the back row of the bus and watched the different campus stops pass them by. The bus was quiet as it traveled from lesser-used stops back to the main campus. It allowed the two of them some time to talk privately.

“I’m just the same alpha to everyone around us as I was before,” Toby reminded Sam. “I don’t get too close to people, but I don’t want my cover blown.”
