Chapter 147
Two days later.
I woke up alone in my apartment, grateful once more that the book signing was over. I got out and after brushing and washing my face for the morning, I went to the kitchen, catching a glimpse of my spiky hair in the mirror in the hallway that led out of my room.
Yawning, I reached for my cereal box inside the cabinet where I left it and got some milk from the fridge. In a few minutes', my workspace was set. I had my bowl of cereal next to my laptop, the last words I wrote last night before going to bed staring at me, waiting to be continued.
I had just started typing when I heard my doorbell ring. Pearl, that was the first name that popped into my head. I had no friends, just co-writers and neighbors I've only ever seen whenever there's a holiday party at the apartment building.
I took my bowl of cereal with me to the door, not wanting it to get soggy if it was a neighbour and not Pearl waiting outside my door.
