Chapter 27
He peeled himself away inch by inch, lifting her leg and setting it down gently, easing out from under her arm. She made a small sound when she felt the warmth beneath her disappear but didn’t wake up. He waited after he got out to be sure he didn’t wake her and noticed her brow pinched faintly, like she was trying to ascertain if he was there or not.
He sighed when she stopped making any movement at all and went to his window, using the thick curtains to completely block out the early morning sun before heading for the bathroom.
He clicked the bathroom light on after he shut the door most of the way, not closing it completely to avoid making a noise. Yet, when he came back out, Liana was sitting up, to his surprise.
The blanket was wrapped around her shoulders loosely, hair mussed and untidy, eyes still thick with sleep. She sat at the edge of the bed like she was trying to convince herself to remain awake.
