Chapter 19. Doubt

Mona was surprised to find Tom standing at the doorstep of her house. But it wasn't the man that made her widen her eyes in perfect surprise; it was the tall young man behind him. The same young man she had slapped the night before. Andrew.

"Mona, Young Master Andrew would like to see you," Tom explained their purpose for coming. It was true that Andrew had asked Tom to take him to Emma's house. Tom had repeatedly told him it wasn't necessary, but Andrew insisted.

"What else do you want?" Mona asked curtly. Emma had gone to work, and Edward had left for school, so she was practically alone at home.

"At the very least, please allow us to come in," Tom whispered, "and try to be a little kind."

Mona huffed away from the doorway.

"Young Master, please come in. I apologize if the house is small and messy," Tom said.

"This isn't your house, so why are you apologizing?" Mona retorted cynically. Tom could only sigh impatiently while ushering Andrew inside.
