A quick glance showed him that Ethan was still blending with the shadows, doing his best to be mostly unseen. That was good enough for Mikhail. Better this than any troublesome, meddling vampire hunter. It was good that Ethan never broke into his study or his bedroom to assassinate him in his sleep, either.
Not that it would pose a danger for Mikhail. Rather, it was Ethan’s life that would be at stake, not his. If Ethan died, that would mean the councils were going to give him harassment for it, and something like that was not worth the trouble.
“I’m leaving,” he told Cassy, who looked up from her book in surprise.
“Where are you going?” she asked.
“The Councils summoned me,” he replied simply. “I need to give them my report.”
