The sound of the gunshot was less noisy than the commotion within me. It did not allow me to notice that I was the only one who had not moved an inch. Everyone else had run into the field, kicking up dust in their determination to find a piece. I snapped out of my thoughts and joined the search. I could see April pulling stumps out of her way, displaying her strength. She was not someone I could beat in a fistfight.

“I found one!” someone exclaimed from somewhere and dashed toward Prefect Naomi to submit her piece. It was placed on a tray, and I did not get to see what it looked like.
