Chapter 22. Mistress Assistant

All week, I was tasked with the double duty of watching Drew and carrying out my duties as a servant. Unable to keep up, I decided to confide in April and Jess. April had been ecstatic to meet the old dog but Jess had been wary.

"It's risky to keep him here for long. The guards do routine checks daily and a bark from a dog this big will surely attract attention."

April was quick to defend Drew, disagreeing with her best friend for once. "Who are you, the party police? He can stay and Venus is our friend so we have to help her keep him safe."

I was their friend? When April turned to me with an astonished look on her face, I realized that I had spoken my thoughts out loud. She enclosed me in a warm hug and picked me off the ground.

"Of course, you are. You are smart, funny and you have an adorable dog. What's not to like?"

She frowned at Jess who sighed heavily and joined in the hug eventually. I had not
